Complementing her work with folk music and storytelling, Susan is also a freelance violinist in the Boston area. She regularly teaches and performs at Suzuki workshops and institutes throughout the country.

From 1989 to 1999 Susan was director of Suzuki Studies and on the Violin Faculty at the New England Conservatory of Music. She is well-known in New England as the founder and co-director of the Ogontz Suzuki Institute in Lyman NH — named one of the best family camps in the country by Parents Magazine in 2000. Her formal training includes both a Bachelor and Master of Music Degree in violin performance from the Cleveland Institute of Music.

A love of music and performance runs deep in Susan’s family. She comes from a musical family, and her three children and husband are musicians as well. Susan is often joined in either performance or recording by her family. Much of her writing, be it song or story, comes from teaching her children and learning to parent.
